Within a day of getting my iPhone I have already managed to clog it up with a collection of fairly standard apps plus some pretty useful ones. I would say that overall this has been a pretty decent experience so far. In fact I do wonder why I didn’t get one sooner.
I won’t go into the mundane question of iPhones dominance over the mobile market instead to say that i think it should just be accepted. Instead the question as a teacher should be – how can I get the iPhone to be used more in school? That’s a tough one to answer. Cost is the main factor but teaching culture is the other major issue as well. I would gladly be getting students to blog on their iPhones in my class but when they go into another subject and the phone never leaves their bag it would become a pointless project. So how to overcome this? The obvious answer is the VLE and how it is set up to support teachers in the classroom. If at least one teacher in the school is leading by best practice in the use of iPhones then hopefully others will follow. The iPhone on its own will never prove educational value. Having the tools and lesson content in place to support it will prove it’s value. And if someone could show me how to use this keyboard so that I don’t keep on hitting the shift key whenever I go for the a key I would be most happy! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
